The recorder's rear mics, featured in this file, are facing away from the street into the sidewalk at a right angle at a height of approx. 60 cm. Traffic is passing in both directions, about 1 min. Into the recording, a bus stops and continues onward. Recording was conducted with a zoom h2. These are the rear channels of a 4ch surround recording, mics set to 120° dispersion.

A recording of the creek mühlgraben in the bavarian forest on a trail from the village rettenbach to the peak schopf. Here in the midwest one sure sign that winter "has left the building" is when the neo-tropical migrants arrive in the forests to gorge themselves on the multitude of insects, and to raise a family. One of my favorite bird-songs is this "zipper" sounding call of the northern parula. Perhaps you have heard this very unique call while out in the woods. Many find the sound of a prop-plane flying lazily very peaceful --- especially if it is a late summer day against a blue sky on the edge of a forest. Even though i was actually on an outing to record the birds of the deep forest in summer, this plane came right overhead and, well, here it is. The ocassional soft chirp of the birds adds a nice touch. Recorded with my zoom h4n recorder with the internal microphones set on an input volume of 75.

The dog was longing for it's master, i did not do any harm to it otherwise than mercifully recording funny (in my opinion) sounds it made instead of saying words of support. I don't feel guilty. A recording of dry leaves skittering across an asphalt parking lot around 2:00pm on a friday afternoon. I feel this recording captures the serene, but sad, sound of dry leaves in the fall being scattered about by a strong north wind. Recording made with the marantz pmd661-oade, and the incredible beyerdynamic me58 microphone. Since this particular microphone is a dynamic microphone, i had to crank my record gain up to 7. I was really happily surprised that the sometimes un-listenable wind-roar and wind rumble is barely noticeable on this recording. . . . . . Emjoy this autumn soundscape.

Up until this day, the weather here in the midwest had been your typical high-heat high-humidity. But, the day before this field-recording was made the wonderful jet-stream had dropped down on us, a cool, mass of less-humid canadian air, making the leaves sing through the trees with the lifting of the northwest breezes.
